This was my first month participating in the Foodie Pen Pals program. I have to say that it is a genius idea and I honestly wish I had thought of it. This month my pen pal was a lovely girl from Iowa named Madeline. She sent me some great local items and also the ingredients and a recipe for zero carb gummy candy.
She sent me Happy Joe's Taco Sauce which she says is famous in Iowa. My husband and I loved it. It will be our newest addition to taco Tuesday's. Only 2 net carbs per serving.
Next, there was Boetje's stone ground dutch mustard. SO delicious. It tastes like dijon mixed with horseradish. It is the perfect amount of spiciness. I have been eating it on my turkey, bacon, avocado wraps.
Less than 1 net carb per serving.
She also sent me a jar of Peake apple salsa. It is from her family orchard. I had never even heard of apple salsa before. It was delicious. Not too spicy and with a hint of sweetness. Only 1 net carb per serving.
I thought it was such a great idea that she put the ingredients for zero carb gummy candy and wrote up the recipe for me. It was such a nice touch.
