Quantum Scales - A Review and Giveaway

For years I have felt as though I was chained to the scale.  The number I saw every day (yes, every day) had so much to do with my self worth.  That is no way to go through life.  I would get up, weigh myself, see that I gained a pound and be bummed out for the rest of the day over 1 pound.  Does this sound familiar to you?  I knew I had to break this vicious cycle of self-loathing and emotional abuse.  I started weighing myself less and less.  It was so incredibly hard.  I would walk into the bathroom and feel as though the scale was begging me to step on it.  Some times the urge felt so strong it was as though the scale had a gravitational force pulling me towards it.  There were times when I could sooner avoid food cravings that the overwhelming urge to see that "defining" number that would set the tone for my whole day. I had to break this cycle.  I've even had my husband hide the scale from me.  Then in October I posted a "Change One Thing" challenge on my Facebook page. My challenge was to give up dairy for the month.  Along with that I decided I was going to ditch the scale for the entire month of October.  I was no longer going to let that number define me.  I was going to keep tracking my food, doing my workouts and just base things on how I felt and looked each day.  This was the perfect timing for me to try out the Quantum Scale

The Quantum Scale is designed to promote positive self-image and help you stay positive about your weight loss accomplishments without focusing on "the number".  Quantum scale never actually shows your weight.  It records your weight the first time you step on it and from there only shows you how much weight you have gained or lost.  It is designed to help you reduce the stress surrounding your weight, keep you motivated, and remove the fear and shame caused by being overweight.

I put this note on my scale while I was trying not to weigh myself.  It served as the perfect reminder to keep me away from the scale.  Learning to celebrate non-scale victories has been a challenge but doing so has become so rewarding. I am now able to appreciate the things that actually matter... Like putting on my pants and feeling that they are looser or seeing more definition in my arms.  That is so much more gratifying that seeing a slightly lower number on the scale.

Here is how the scale works:
INITIAL SET UP
1. Remove the battery access panel on the back of the
scale.
2. Move switch from off position to either Kilograms (kg) or
Pounds (lb) and replace battery access panel.

PROGRAM/SET
1. Place scale on a hard, flat surface such as wood or tile
(not carpet).
2. Tap scale to turn on.
3. When the scale displays four bars (- - - -), press the
program button located on the top left side of the scale.
4. The scale will display “pro”, then after a few seconds,
“0.0” will be displayed.
5. When “0.0” is displayed, stand squarely on the scale and
remain still until “OK” appears in the bottom right corner
of the display screen. The never revealed weight has
now been stored in memory.

YOUR QUANTUM SCALE IS NOW READY FOR USE!

DAILY USAGE
1. Tap scale to turn on
2. When four bars (- - - -) are displayed, stand squarely on
the scale.
3. The bars (- - - -) will flash four times then the scale will
show a loss or gain, not the actual weight.

The Quantum Scale comes in all the colors featured above and has a price tag of $59.

I love the sleek design of the scale and the concept behind it.  It is a wonderful thing to let go of the chains that bind us to the scale.  BUT, I do have a few things I would change.  I would love it if this scale had a larger readout or if the readout lit up.  Also, it is only meant for one person.  So the whole time I have been using this scale, we still have the other scale in the bathroom for my husband to use.  It seems to me that it would be fairly easy to make this scale available with settings for multiple users.  I know there are other scales on the market that have this feature.  Also, I do not think it is necessary to have such an incredibly large logo on it.  I'm sure that is just a matter of personal preference.  Lastly, one day I stepped on the scale and it showed a 13.8 pound gain from the prior day.  I stepped on it again and it said I had lost 9.5 pounds.  Then when I stood on it a third time, it showed me my actual weight.  It is NEVER supposed to do this and it was not something I wanted to see.  However, I do believe that this is probably the exception and not the rule and that this is not a common occurrence.

  2. I would love to win this scale. I just moved home a few months ago and had a glass scale. During the move the glass scale didn't make it. Sadly it shattered into a million pieces. I would love it in pink! So feminine!

  3. I've maintained my weight loss for about 7 years now but still find myself being a slave to the scale. Would love this scale to try and change that behavior.

  13. This scale seems like an AWESOME idea!! I too weigh myself every day, mainly because I'm close to my 100# loss goal. I need to see how close I'm getting! I usually weigh myself every 2 or 3 days, but this would be nice to not have to see that dang number all the time. I love the blue one!

  19. because I'm slowly learning that the overall weight number on that scale is irrelevant due to muscle and body fat percentage. I too have been a slave to the scale and still weigh myself every day but only record once a week. Just because it's so bright in lively in color, I'd cloose the orange/yellow color.
